Union Hospital FirstCare, the hospital’s urgent care service, is moving its operations and will open this Saturday (Sept. 23) inside its spacious new location at the new UPS Family Health Center North building in north Dover directly across the street from Buehler’s Fresh Foods.
FirstCare, which has been located in the Oxford Center at Dover for many years, will be open for patients as usual at the Oxford location this week (Monday through Friday) before closing at 4 p.m. on Friday (Sept. 22). FirstCare then will open the very next morning (Saturday, Sept. 23) at 8 a.m. in its new location at the UPS Family Health Center North at 110 Dublin Dr. in Dover.
The new location for FirstCare is conveniently accessible off Exit 85 of I-77 (Schneider’s Crossing Rd. exit) and has its own dedicated entrance, plenty of parking and modern patient facilities.
“Patients and their families will notice the improvements for their care at FirstCare as soon as they walk in the door at the new location,” said Darrin Lautenschleger, director of community relations at Union Hospital. “A large, clearly marked registration desk is located just inside the entrance, and staff members will be there to assist them immediately.”
The new location also will provide more patient exam rooms and technology for patient care.
“The location just off I-77 also is more convenient for travel to FirstCare for patients in Tuscarawas and surrounding counties,” Lautenschleger said. “We immediately identified the new location as being ideal for our patients to access FirstCare services by utilizing I-77 as the primary travel route.”
Union Hospital FirstCare is open seven days a week on Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is closed on major holidays.
FirstCare offers immediate medical services for patients who do not require the resources of the UH Lauren Emergency Center or at the times their family doctor is not available. Patients are seen on a walk-in basis and no appointment is needed.
Physician services are provided by community-based members of the Union Hospital medical staff. Laboratory testing and X-ray services also are offered on site to FirstCare patients.
As a department of Union Hospital, FirstCare provides for a quick and accurate flow of patient medical information to the patient's family physician and Union Hospital. FirstCare accepts AultCare, Medicare, Medicaid and most other insurance plans.
The UPS Family Health Center North family medical practice, also operated by Union Hospital, opened earlier this year inside the building at a separate entrance.
